As a professional dancer for the past decade, there is so many top tips I wish I had known from early. So I'm here to lay some tips for you.

The dance world is competitive, fast-paced, and constantly evolving. While skill and technique are crucial, they’re not the only things that determine success. To truly stand out and sustain a career, dancers need to embrace a deeper understanding of what it takes to thrive. Let’s break it down.
1. Vibe Before Resume
Before you even step into an audition room or submit a dance reel, remember this: your energy speaks before you do. In hip-hop culture, there’s a saying—“the vibe doesn’t lie.” Who you are off the dance floor is just as important as who you are on it.
Casting directors, choreographers, and artists are looking for people—not just skilled bodies. They want to work with individuals who bring trust, authenticity, and presence. When you walk into a room, bring more than just technique; bring an energy that uplifts and adds to the environment.
2. Master Your Craft, Not Just the Trends
TikTok trends might get you views, but mastery of your craft gets you booked.
Hip-hop is rooted in foundation—popping, locking, breaking, freestyle, and musicality. It’s not just about learning choreography; it’s about respecting the culture and its elements. By studying the origins and adding depth to your movement, you set yourself apart.
The goal isn’t to do the most—it’s to do the real. Authenticity shines without effort.
3. Rejection Ain’t the End—It’s the Training Ground
Every “no” is just a redirection to your “yes.”
Even if you’re the best dancer in the room, you might not book the job. Why? Maybe they needed someone taller. Maybe they were looking for a different aesthetic. Maybe it just wasn’t your time.
Rejection doesn’t define your talent or worth—it’s part of the rhythm. Learn to move with it, not against it.
4. Network, But Make It Real
Networking in dance isn’t about clout-chasing; it’s about building genuine relationships.
Support other dancers. Show up to their shows. Engage with their work. Be part of the community, not just the competition. You never know who’s watching or who might call your name when an opportunity arises.
The best gigs come from connections built on respect and love, not ego.
Final Thoughts
Success in dance isn’t just about technique; it’s about presence, resilience, and authenticity. Bring your energy, commit to your craft, embrace rejection as part of the process, and cultivate meaningful connections.
When you do that, you won’t just stand out—you’ll thrive.
